Ready to Travel again?

The outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic spilled water on everybody’s holiday plans this year. Following months of stringent rules of lockdown, social distancing and proper hygiene standards, there has been a decline in the number of positive cases that has given a ray hope to some travel lovers to begin their adventures soon. However, the question is- Do you forget your teeth during your holiday?

Here are few simple tips on how to keep your teeth healthy and still enjoy your holiday.

Keep a travel sized brush, floss, toothpaste and a pocket-sized mouth wash in your travel bag.

Put your oral healthcare items at the top of your holiday packing list. Avoid storing your toothbrush in a plastic Zip-lock bag while traveling. The damp and enclosed area will take longer to dry and cause bacterial growth.

Do not use your teeth to open bottles, crack nuts, packages, snack bags.

Gripping a package or a stubborn bottle cap with your teeth can crack them, possibly requiring a root canal treatment or a crown.

Always keep a sugar free gum in your purse.

Chewing sugar free gum has been shown to increase the flow of saliva, thereby reducing plaque build-up, strengthening teeth and reducing tooth decay.

Munch on tooth friendly items

If you have the habit of eating frequently then you should switch to snacking on healthier options such as pumpkin or sunflower seeds, fruits, cheese.

Choose Light coloured or clear beverages.

The acid and chromogen in dark colored sodas cause staining of the teeth. Colas contain Phosphoric acid while lemon or lime flavored sodas have citric acid. Both of these acid can cause erosion of tooth surface, known as enamel. Weakened enamel increases the absorption of chromogen, contributing to staining.
